Hello friends!
You’re on this email list either because you know us from Galileo Games or directly via interactions with us personally. And so MothSpire is inheriting the bulk of this email list as part of Tim’s new project spaces. Brennan (of Galileo) is still making games, but retiring from publishing. And now Tim’s design collaborator, Sam, is part of MothSpire team, and brings deep experience with art, intersectionality, and activism in social well-being spaces.
So, it’s time for a new thing.
This is our first newsletter as MothSpire, and because it’s a transitional space, we’d like to set some new expectations. While games are still a core offering, we are so much more than that. We also do creative coaching, workshops, events, and more. We’re ultimately here to support our creative community. We recognize that uplifting and resource sharing with each other creates wins for everyone. There is room for all sorts of big ideas, and we want our community to value themselves, each other, and the work we do as creatives.
The second thing is that Thoughtful Togetherness is core to everything we create and do: it’s the through-line and the heart of our work, whether outreach to our community, event spaces, and definitely in the diversity of our games, no matter how serious or silly they seem.
What we’ve been up to
Summer’s End Retreat
We’re organizing a weekend interdisciplinary creative retreat the weekend of September 12-14 in Central Pennsylvania at the Colerain Forges Mansion — a non-profit center for education that makes their space available for artist residencies. We’re looking for artists of all stripes to join our effervescent collective to work in community and get focused support to get a project of your choice to its next major milestone.
Gorgon’s Garden
We’re currently working on our next game, Gorgon’s Garden. It’s been in development and playtesting for nearly a year now. And we’re starting to commission some teaser artwork in preparation for a crowdfunding campaign that’s planned for this October.

Gorgon’s Garden is a cooperative game for 3 to 6 players. It is based on Greek myths of Zeus’s unwanted and often deceptive pursuit of mortals. By offering very sexy descriptions of ordinary (and not so ordinary) objects. Your allies in this are the Gorgons (Medusa and her sisters), who have allotted space in their statuesque garden for the times you don’t have success.
This game has been so much fun to develop and playtest. We’ve showed it at Metatopia, Cardboard Edison judging events, Break My Game, and among our local design community. We’d love for you to check it out.
Designed in the DMV
Sam’s been busy building local community in the DMV, tabling at events in Baltimore, MD and the greater DC area. They also appeared on a recent panel, “Games are for Everyone,” organized by local designer collective Designed in the DMV. This partnership helps connect local game designers, book/game store owners, publishers, editors, and artists together to share promotional and educational resources and deeply aligns with MothSpire’s vision.
