Retreat: Effervescent Collective

This September 12-14, we’re hosting a weekend interdisciplinary creative retreat to support artists of diverse and differing mediums in getting a creative project of their choice over a hurdle, with support from us and from each other.

For an all-inclusive price of $425 per person retreat days will include:

Meals prepared and served in community, a post-breakfast warm-up activity and prompt activity, open space for artists to work, and dinner/post dinner progress sharing time.  Tim and Sam will be responsible for organizing breakfast, lunch, and meal prep for the community.

Professional Development and Support

Mentorship and Guidance

Tim and Sam will offer one-to-one and small group mentoring (one hour included) to artists by request.   The artists at the residency will also be invited to join an online ongoing peer support forum to provide accountability and encouragement from each other and their peers.

Professional Development Opportunities

Unlike traditional residencies, this weekend seeks to bring in artists of differing creative disciplines to work alongside each other. Tools for grounding and prompts will be designed to work across mediums, and artists will benefit from community building and support for ideation from outside their disciplines.

Creative Freedom and Autonomy

Artists will have open use of indoor and outdoor common areas as well as private use of their large sleeping quarters to work independently on projects.  Morning warm up sessions and prompts and evening meal and progress shares will be the primary tools of holding the container, freeing artists to progress as they see fit.

The Site: Colerain Center for Education, Preservation, and the Arts

Artists will have access to a private or semi-private bedroom, use of common areas (great room, reading room, writing room, etc, shared kitchen, shared bathrooms.  The house has modern central air conditioning.  The grounds have a creek on one near border, maintained gardens, a pond, a small wooded glade and three porches (one screened).

To close out the weekend retreat, the following event is being offered for the general public1 on Sunday afternoon to let artists sell prior finished works, and to support the site:

Creativity Instigator Workshop and Artists Salon: A workshop using storytelling games and various other creative constraints from game design to help participants of all skills engage their imaginations to solve problems or get over creative hurdles. Followed by a salon-style evening of readings, showings, and samples of the select artists’ work. Resident Artists will also have an opportunity to sell prior finished works directly to the public.
